Membership

Any advocate enrolled with a State Bar Council in India can apply. Membership is voluntary and separate from enrolment, which stays with the council.

Membership categories and what each entry shows
Category	Who it covers	Register entry
Member	Enrolled with a State Bar Council and in practice.	Listed as in practice.
Associate	Enrolled but not in practice, including a career break or a teaching post.	Listed as not in practice.
Life member	A member of fifteen years or more who pays once for the rest of their membership.	Listed as it stands.

What membership carries

Welfare claims: The same document list and the same desk for every member.
Sessions: District sessions on practice, ethics and the new criminal codes.
Referral enquiries: Enquiries passed to you when someone needs an advocate in your district or forum.
Circulars: Every numbered circular goes to members before it is published here.
Register entry: A public entry the secretariat keeps current, with your standing shown correctly.
Helpdesk: One address for paperwork questions, staffed by the secretariat.
